Laurie Lynn Muirhead’s evocative poetry collection, Coyote Snow, has received the Literary Titan Book Award, recognizing the work’s powerful portrayal of rural Canadian life, emotional resilience, and the sacred beauty of the natural world. Set against the rugged winters and everyday wonders of North Central Saskatchewan, Coyote Snow brings readers into a landscape where land, animals, weather, memory, grief, and devotion are inseparably intertwined.
With vivid lyricism and a reverent eye, Muirhead captures the fierce beauty and fragile rhythms of a life lived close to the land. Her poems move through the demanding realities of prairie ranch life, from feeding cattle and checking calves to watching weather and reading animal signs, while exploring deeply human themes of love, endurance, faith, loss, and grace.
Literary Titan praised Coyote Snow as “a deeply rooted, season-bound poetry collection” and noted that the book’s true subject is “what repeated exposure to hardship does to tenderness, and how tenderness survives anyway.” The review highlights Muirhead’s refusal to sentimentalize rural life, describing the collection as emotionally honest, resilient, and quietly memorable.
In Coyote Snow, readers step into the wild and sacred terrain of North Central Saskatchewan, where cold meets spirit, survival meets grace, and the quiet miracles of the natural world become a source of transformation. From the ache of January to thaw, birth, summer labour, drought, autumn vigilance, and the first returning snow, Muirhead creates a collection where the land is not merely a backdrop, but a living moral atmosphere.
The Literary Titan Book Award marks an important achievement for Muirhead, whose poetry continues to shine as a rising voice in rural Canadian literature. With its rough lyric beauty and deeply lived-in voice, Coyote Snow is a moving collection for readers drawn to poetry grounded in place, labour, weather, family, and the hard-won beauty of survival.
